The Meaning of Barack Obama¡¯s Victory for Korea
No.544, Nov. 17, 2008
The 44th US presidential election captivated the attention of the world as the prospect of Barack Obama becoming the first African-American US president turned a reality on November 4, 2008. He obtained the largest majority of votes in US electoral history while winning overwhelming support from minorities, people of low-income, women and young adults. The ¡°Bradley effect,¡± a theory which purports that those voters who favor a black candidate in opinion polls would then cast their ballot for a white candidate on election day, did not come into play.
